Are injectable "fillers" websites easy to read?

A recently published study concluded that cosmetic injectable websites are too difficult to read by the sixth grade standard recommended by the National Institutes of Health and the American Medical Association.  The study compared the most popular cosmetic injectables websites to assess their readability, quality, and technical performance. A former Google search for "Botox" (botulinum toxin type A) and "fillers" yielded the most popular health information websites. Sites were analyzed for their readability and quality of health information. The mean quality scores were higher for online health reference websites compared to academic/hospital websites, commercial websites, private practice board-certified websites, and private practice not-board-certified websites. This has implications for the ability of many patients to be fully informed consumers. The readability, quality, and technical aspects of websites may affect the overall accessibility of patient health

D3 Vitamin in Women with Diabetes and Depressive Symptoms

A study in women with Type 2 Diabetes who present substantial symptoms of depression and insufficient vitamin D,  showed that beyond the difference in the dosage efficacy of vitamin D3 supplementation to treat depressed symptoms, the mood improved with time, regardless of the dosage. Vitamin D has to be studied further as a treatment for depression symptoms in comorbid groups.  See original article Penckofer S, Ridosh M, Adams W, Grzesiak M, Woo J, Byrn M, Kouba J, Sheean P, Kordish C, Durazo-Arvizu R, Wallis D, Emanuele MA, Halaris A. The Power of Music

The next time you're not able to get out to the gym, maybe spin some records instead: new research suggests the positive impact on mental health from singing, playing, or listening to music is around the same impact experienced with exercise or weight loss. That's based on a meta-analysis covering 26 previous studies and a total of 779 people. The earlier research covered everything from using gospel music as a preventative measure against heart disease to how joining a choir can help people recovering from cancer. A growing number of studies are finding links between music and wellbeing. However, the level of the potential boost and exactly why it works are areas that scientists are still looking into – and that's where this particular piece of research can be helpful. "Increasing evidence supports the ability of music to broadly promote wellbeing and health-related quality of life (HRQOL)," write the researchers in their published paper. sciencealert.com

Green Mediterranean diet could be a ‘win-win’ for health and the planet

According to ResearchTrusted Source, animal-based food production — including livestock feed — accounts for 57% of total greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture, while plant-based food production accounts for only 29%. Heart disease, diabetes, and cancer are all reduced in people who follow a traditional Mediterranean diet. However, new study suggests that a "green" Mediterranean diet, which excludes all meat and emphasizes greens, may be even healthier for humans. If the diet becomes popular, the environmental benefits could be equally impressive. Medical News Today

The Diet and Workout That Helped Me Lose 30 Pounds in 3 Months - Men's Health Men's Health

Cal Moores, a 27-year-old graphic designer from the UK, shares his 12-week transformation story. I’ve always been into fitness and going to the gym, but I lacked the commitment and discipline to follow a diet and workout plan. This, along with my lack of gym knowledge, led me to doing the usual crash diets and sporadic workouts that obviously never led to any real results. I realised I wanted to make a change after the summer of 2021, as I’d been heavily involved in going out and socialising whilst watching England play in the Euros. It was the biggest I’d ever been, and it came from a lack of exercising and overindulging with junk food and alcohol. The weight gain seemed to happen without me even realizing. I knew I was letting my body get out of shape and it was knocking my confidence. I’m very active, I play football around five times a week, so you’d just assume I’d be in great shape and would be fit. That wasn’t the case for a long time as my diet was poor, and I was drinking a lo

Josh Pyke on anxiety and panic attacks: ‘I was worried medication would affect my creativity

The singer-songwriter took a two-year break from touring to address his mental health – then the pandemic hit. So how does he feel hitting the road again? Brigid Delaney Fri 18 Mar 2022 19.00 GMT 5 So many lockdown albums carry with them the echoes of confinement – but not Josh Pyke’s latest release, To Find Happiness. The songs are infused with the vibe of lying in a field on a summer’s day, being warmed by the sun. It’s sweet, expansive and lovely, about finding moments of happiness in everyday life. After a long hiatus, Pyke is keen to get back on the road to play it for crowds: his struggles with anxiety saw him take a two-year break from touring before the pandemic. When he finally felt well enough, Covid hit and the lockdowns began. It is reminiscent of what happened to US performer Bo Burnham, who took five years off to deal with his severe panic attacks before preparing to tour in March 2020 – just as everything was shut down. French Fries vs Almonds Every Day for a Month: What Changes?

Eat french fries every day for a month? Sure, as long as it's for science. That's exactly what 107 people did in a scientific study, while 58 others ate a daily serving of almonds with the same number of calories. At the end of the study, the researchers found no significant differences between the groups in people's total amount of fat or their fasting glucose measures, according to the study, which was published last month in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. The french fry eaters gained a little more weight, but it was not statistically significant. The people who ate french fries gained 0.49 kilograms (just over a pound), vs. about a tenth of a kilogram (about one-fifth of a pound) in the group of people who ate almonds. "The take-home is if you like almonds, eat some almonds. If you like potatoes, eat some potatoes, but don't overeat either," says study leader David B. Allison, PhD, a professor at Indiana University's School of Public Heal

Many Teens Overdose on Meds Prescribed for ADHD, Anxiety

MONDAY, March 14, 2022 (HealthDay News) -- Taken correctly, prescription drugs used to treat attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) can help teens and young adults navigate their condition, but a new study finds many are dying from overdosing on these medications. In 2019, benzodiazepines like Xanax and stimulants like Adderall accounted for more than 700 and 900 overdose deaths, respectively, in the United States, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "In recent years, there has been considerable attention devoted to risks of addiction associated with diverted or illicitly obtained benzodiazepines and stimulants," said senior researcher Dr. Mark Olfson. He is a professor of psychiatry, medicine and law at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York City. "The new study serves as a reminder that prescription benzodiazepines and stimulants also pose overdose risks to the patients who are prescribed them," Olfson said.

GUIDE How to get over ‘never good enough’

Need to know Perfectionism comes in different forms ‘If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well.’ How many times did I hear that growing up? My parents were attempting to teach me (just in case I hadn’t absorbed it from their actions) the importance of striving for excellence. They were encouraging what some psychologists call ‘constructive perfectionism’ or ‘healthy perfectionism’ – a personality trait that’s associated with finding enjoyment and even fulfilment in life from doing things as well as you possibly can. With constructive or ‘positive perfectionism’, the focus is process-oriented; you learn from mistakes or even failure. It’s generally considered a beneficial trait that’s linked with being more conscientious and self-disciplined. Yet perfectionism can have a darker side. The American academic and author Brené Brown defined this kind of perfectionism in her first book, The Gifts of Imperfection (2010), as ‘a self-destructive and addictive belief system that fuels this prima

The American Psychological Association defines free-floating anxiety as “a diffuse, chronic sense of uneasiness and apprehension not directed toward any specific situation or object.” To put it another way, you might simply feel worried, nervous, and fearful for no clear reason. Since these feelings tend to emerge without warning, instead of in response to a specific trigger, you might find it tough to predict or manage them. Free-floating anxiety is the hallmark symptom of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). An estimated 5.7 percent of people will develop GAD at some point i
