Nuevas investigaciones de científicos estadounidenses y holandeses demuestran que rezar puede ayudar a aliviar la ira, rebajar la agresividad y reducir el impacto de la provocación.

"La gente acude a menudo a la oración cuando siente emociones negativas, incluyendo la ira", dijo Brad Bushman, profesor de comunicación y psicología en la Ohio State University y co-autor del estudio.

"Descubrimos que la oración realmente puede ayudar a la gente a lidiar con la cólera, probablemente ayudándolos a cambiar su punto de vista sobre los acontecimientos que los indignaron y ayudándolos a tomarlos de forma menos personal", agregó.

En la investigación publicada online en el Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, Bushman y sus colegas descubrieron que rezar ayudaba a controlar la ira sin importar la afiliación religiosa de la persona o si iba a misa o rezaba de forma habitual.

En el primer estudio pidieron a 53 estudiantes universitarios estadounidenses que completaran un cuestionario que medía niveles de emociones como ira, depresión, tensión, fatiga y vigor y luego los colocaron ante una situación que pudiera provocar una respuesta colérica.

Después pidieron a los estudiantes que leyeran una noticia de un periódico sobre una paciente de cáncer y les asignaron aleatoriamente que rezaran por ella o pensaran en ella. Los estudiantes que rezaron por la paciente reflejaron posteriormente menores niveles de ira.

En otros estudios, Bushman, Ryan Bremner de la Universidad de Michigan, y Sander Koole, de la Universidad UV en Amsterdam, tuvieron resultados similares sobre el poder de la oración a la hora de lidiar con la ira, la agresividad y la provocación.

"Los efectos que encontramos en estos experimentos fueron bastante grandes, lo que sugiere que la oración realmente puede ser un modo efectivo de calmar la ira y la agresividad", dijo Bushman.

Pero subrayó que los beneficios estaban relacionados con una oración benévola.

"Cuando la gente se enfrenta a su propia ira, podría querer considerar el viejo consejo de rezar por los enemigos", dijo Bremner. "Puede que no beneficie a sus enemigos, pero podría ayudarlos a lidiar con las emociones negativas", agregó.

Exploring the Link Between Circadian Rhythms, Longevity, and Wearable Data: Insights and Future Directions

A recent study in NHANES 2011–2014 explores the potential connection between disruptions in circadian rhythms, measured using wearable devices, and their impact on health outcomes and longevity.
