Los jóvenes que se acuestan tarde son propensos a la depresión


Así lo demuestra un estudio estadounidense el cual asegura que los jóvenes que se acuestan después de las 12 de la noche tienen un 24% de probabilidades de deprimirse.
Científicos de la Universidad de Columbia, en Nueva York, han demostrado que los adolescentes que se van a la cama a partir de las 12 de la noche, así como los que presentan falta de sueño son más propensos a la depresión que los que se acuestan antes de las diez de la noche.
La investigación realizada entre 15.500 jóvenes de 12 a 18 años y sus padres, ha comprobado que aquellos que se acostaban después de las doce tenían un 24% más de probabilidades de sufrir depresión.Mientras que los que dormían cinco horas o menos, el riesgo de depresión se elevaba hasta un 71%, según informa la BBC News.
El doctor James Gangwisch, jefe de la investigación, ha querido destacar la posible relación que explica este trastorno. Según ha contado este experto, la falta de sueño podría afectar las respuestas emocionales del cerebro y conducir así a la melancolía, lo que a su vez afectaría a la habilidad para hacer frente al estrés cotidiano; viéndose también perjudicados el juicio, la concentración y el control de los impulsos.
Estos datos permiten perfilar una serie de hábitos que vendrían a prevenir este tipo de trastornos. El doctor Gangwisch ha querido insistir en "la calidad del sueño", una medida que se hace más efectiva al complementarla con una dieta equilibrada y la práctica habitual de ejercicio.
Según la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), en 20 años, la depresión será la enfermedad que más padecerán los seres humanos, por encima incluso del cáncer y los trastornos cardiovasculares.
Sorprendente también es el dato que se refiere a los adolescentes que aseguraron dormir suficiente, quienes tienden a deprimirse en un 65 % menos.

Exploring the Link Between Circadian Rhythms, Longevity, and Wearable Data: Insights and Future Directions

A recent study in NHANES 2011–2014 explores the potential connection between disruptions in circadian rhythms, measured using wearable devices, and their impact on health outcomes and longevity. The study analyzes data from 7,297 U.S. adults collected through wearable accelerometers as a novel digital biomarker for longevity. Five distinct clusters were identified based on activity profiles: "High activity," "Low activity," "Mild circadian rhythm (CR) disruption," "Severe CR disruption," and "Very low activity." The findings reveal that young adults with extreme circadian rhythm disturbance exhibit higher white blood cell counts and accelerated biological aging. Older adults with circadian disruption are associated with increased systemic inflammation indexes, advanced biological aging, and higher all-cause mortality risk. The research underscores the importance of circadian alignment for longevity at all ages and suggests that wearable
