(EUROPA PRESS)    Los ejercicios de pesas podrían ayudar a minimizar el declive cognitivo y el deterioro de la movilidad en los mayores, según un estudio del Centro de Salud de las Caderas y Movilidad del Vancouver Coastal Health y  la Universidad de British Columbia en Canadá que se publica en la revista Archives of Internal Medicine.
   El estudio, dirigido por la investigadora Teresa Liu-Ambrose, es el primer ensayo controlado sobre ejercicios de resistencia intensiva en mujeres mayores. Los investigadores descubrieron que 12 meses de entrenamiento de resistencia una o dos veces a la semana mejoraban el funcionamiento cognitivo ejecutivo en mujeres entre 65 a 75 años. Las funciones cognitivas ejecutivas son las habilidades cognitivas necesarias para vivir de forma independiente.
   Según explica Liu-Ambrose, "pudimos demostrar que ejercicios simples con pesas que los mayores pueden realizar con facilidad mejoraban la capacidad para tomar decisiones exactas de forma rápida. Además, descubrimos que los ejercicio conducían a una mayor velocidad al caminar, un indicador de reducción considerable en la mortalidad".
   Los estudios previos han mostrado que el ejercicio aeróbico, como caminar o nadar aumenta el funcionamiento cerebral y cognitivo. Sin embargo, los mayores con movilidad limitada no pueden beneficiarse de este tipo de ejercicios.
   Hasta ahora, los beneficios de los ejercicios de resistencia, una atractiva alternativa para los mayores con movilidad limitada, sobre la función cognitiva habían sido poco investigados.
   Los investigadores señalan que los resultados del estudio pueden trasladarse ya a la práctica y sugieren que las mujeres mayores pueden mejorar su salud ya que las dosis de los ejercicios de resistencia empleadas en la investigación se corresponden con los criterios adoptados por las guías de actividad física existentes para los mayores.

Exploring the Link Between Circadian Rhythms, Longevity, and Wearable Data: Insights and Future Directions

A recent study in NHANES 2011–2014 explores the potential connection between disruptions in circadian rhythms, measured using wearable devices, and their impact on health outcomes and longevity. The study analyzes data from 7,297 U.S. adults collected through wearable accelerometers as a novel digital biomarker for longevity.
