Relación entre dieta y salud mental en los adolescentes



No es nuevo comentar que una dieta saludable ayuda a sentirse mejor con uno mismo, pero un estudio realizado en Australia y publicado por el PLoS ONE, pone de manifiesto que la salud mental de los jóvenes se ve afectada por la mala alimentación.


La época de la adolescencia es complicada, no sólo para ellos sino también para los que están a su alrededor. La concentración, dificultades sociales, dinero, físico... son aspecto que preocupan a muchos jóvenes de entre 14 y 24 años.

El estudio australiano, realizado sobre una muestra de 3000 adolescentes durante dos años de investigación demuestra que: cuando éste grupo de personas mantenía una dieta saludable y unos buenos hábitos culinarios se sentían bien, y por lo tanto su salud mental era óptima. En cambio, las prisas y malas costumbres a la hora de alimentarse, daban como resultado un fracaso total en lo referente a una buena capacidad y salud mental.

Tanto el Instituto Nacional de Salud Mental como el Dr. Felice Jacka, reconocen que los cambios en los hábitos alimentarios están derivando en una alimentación demasiado saturada, con un alto contenido de grasas y azúcares, lo que provoca un malestar mental, especialmente en los adolescentes.

Para conseguir un estado de salud mental bueno, el doctor Jacka recomienda una dieta saludable, donde predominan y coinciden los alimentos que, generalmente, aportan nutrientes y favorecen a la salud física. Estos sería: Vegetales, legumbres, frutos secos, pescado, carnes ligeras y productos lácteos bajos en grasa.

Según Viviani, chef de gran prestigio, no es necesario tener mucho tiempo para comer sano. En más de una ocasión ha hecho hincapié en el concepto de concina bien, bueno y en poco tiempo. Los tres consejo que expone este especialista gastronómico son: Evitar comidas envasadas, cocina con ingredientes de calidad; no complicarse, usar tres o cuatro ingredientes y así cocinar un buen plato en 15minutos y, por último, ensuciarse cocinado hace que uno se sienta mejor.

Exploring the Link Between Circadian Rhythms, Longevity, and Wearable Data: Insights and Future Directions

A recent study in NHANES 2011–2014 explores the potential connection between disruptions in circadian rhythms, measured using wearable devices, and their impact on health outcomes and longevity. The study analyzes data from 7,297 U.S. adults collected through wearable accelerometers as a novel digital biomarker for longevity. Five distinct clusters were identified based on activity profiles: "High activity," "Low activity," "Mild circadian rhythm (CR) disruption," "Severe CR disruption," and "Very low activity." The findings reveal that young adults with extreme circadian rhythm disturbance exhibit higher white blood cell counts and accelerated biological aging. Older adults with circadian disruption are associated with increased systemic inflammation indexes, advanced biological aging, and higher all-cause mortality risk. The research underscores the importance of circadian alignment for longevity at all ages and suggests that wearable
